Flyers Cannot Get Out of Their Own Way And Lose Another
The Philadelphia Flyers came back to South Philadelphia after a tough road trip and did a lot of the same. The Flyers go down to the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 4-1. Bad penalties, bad turnovers, and bad play. The Hurricanes went up 2-0 in the 2nd period when then Christian Dvorak gave the Flyers a bit of juice scoring his first of the year. Then moments later Sebastian Aho made it a 3-1 game.
The game continued to spiral downhill for the Flyers as fans really started to let them hear it with boos raining down for the majority of the 2nd and 3rd period. They look like a lost team right now and the reigning cup champs made sure of it. The Flyers next take the ice on Tuesday night against the Seattle Kraken.
Game Breakdown
1st Period
The Flyers came out strong at the start of the period, they had a look of aggressiveness and were looking to keep the puck out of their zone and to play some offense. Oliver Bonk made his season debut and recorded 2 minor penalties, the first a questionable cross-check and then a clear hook. The Flyers were able to kill off both penalties looking pretty well on the kill. The Flyers had 1 power play in the period and did not do much with it, giving up a dangerous scoring chance the other way. The Flyers were outshot in the period 11-5 but still was a promising period to build off of.
2nd Period
The 2nd period was about as brutal as it gets for the Flyers. After having a good fight in the 1st they looked like how they have been playing all season long, sloppy play and having no fight. Carolina opened the scoring in the 2nd with a goal from Andrei Svechnikov and then shortly after a wide open goal for Shayne Gostisbehere. Christian Dvorak would then get a deflection goal to give the Xfinity Mobile Center some life with his first of the year. Then not even 2 minutes later Sebastian Aho makes it 3-1 Carolina. Seemed to be just a defeated team until Dvorak netted one and then it was right back down after the quick response from Carolina. The fans let them hear it by booing them off the ice going into intermission.
3rd Period
The third was a strong start for the orange and black. They seemed to take getting booed off the ice personally and come out with a pep in their step. Then they start to resort to old habits, bad penalties, can’t clear the zone, and turning the puck over. “Fire Tocchet” chants rained down in the 3rd period and the team just could not get out of their own way.
