Days after signing one of their 2016 draft picks, the Flyers inked a 2017 draft pick.

The Flyers signed forward Maksim Sushko to an entry-level deal. Sushko was selected in the fourth round with the 107th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft.

Sushko, 19, is a 6’0”, 180-pound forward currently playing for the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL. He has 30 goals and 25 assists for 55 points in 57 games this season. Sushko also impressed with Belarus in World Juniors this season, posting two goals and six assists for eight points in six games in the tournament and playing big minutes in each of the games.

In his draft year, Sushko scored 17 goals and had 32 points in 54 games for Owen Sound. He also had three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 17 playoff games.

The signing comes just days after the team signed forward Carsen Twarynski to an entry-level deal. Twarynski plays for Kelowna in the WHL.

In addition, there was some news out of the Flyers AHL affiliate as well.

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have been one of the AHL’s best teams this season after making a return to the playoffs last season. A lot of that has to do with a wave of young talent working its way through the Flyers organization.

It also has to do with the man behind the bench for the Phantoms, head coach Scott Gordon. Gordon is currently in his third season with the Phantoms and will be behind the bench for much longer. Gordon signed a contract extension to remain the Phantoms head coach.

In three seasons, the 55-year-old has a 122-74-19 record as the Phantoms bench boss. The Phantoms 48 wins and 101 standings points were the franchise’s highest in over a decade. The Phantoms reached the playoffs last season, falling to Hershey in the best-of-five series, 3-2.

Gordon has coached at the AHL level for eight seasons with a 343-215-13 record. The Phantoms currently lead the Atlantic Division with a 40-16-3-4 record and 87 standings points and are closing in on locking up a playoff spot.
