The Philadelphia Flyers placed two players on injured reserve Saturday afternoon in Carolina.

Veteran defenseman Mark Streit was placed on long-term injured reserve with a pubic plate detachment.

He's expected to miss six weeks, although that could be optimistic considering Streit is 37 years old. He will undergo surgery on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

By placing Streit on LTIR, the Flyers were able to relieve over $5 million of their salary cap until Streit returns.

Also being placed on IR is forward RJ Umberger with a lower-body injury. Umberger is expected to miss 1-2 weeks with a left foot ailment.

Being recalled from the Phantoms are defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere and forward Taylor Leir.

The Flyers have been in desperate need of scoring and the hope is that the addition of Gostisbehere, especially, will aid in their blue line skating deficiencies.

The Flyers are in Raleigh this weekend to take on the Hurricanes.
