The Flyers begin rookie camp on Thursday, and all eyes will be on Matvei Michkov. Now in North America and signed to an entry-level deal, the next month will be a countdown to the top prospect’s NHL debut.

But rookie camp offers opportunity for other potential future Flyers to show their abilities and possibly emerge as on-the-radar prospects.

Here are five other prospects to watch during rookie camp.

Oliver Bonk

The other first-round pick from the Michkov class had an impressive season with the London Knights after turning heads in his first NHL camp, so much so that he was in the lineup for a preseason game. With another year of development under his belt, Bonk should be a standout among the rookie camp group.

Denver Barkey

The third-round pick in 2023 was impressive all season long. Like his junior teammate Bonk, Barkey had an excellent camp, also earning a spot in the lineup for a preseason game. He then ranked among the leading scorers in the OHL, in particular in shorthanded categories.

Jett Luchanko

The 2024 first-round pick enters his first training camp with the Flyers. He impressed at development camp and it wouldn’t be out of the question for him to have the same experience that Bonk and Barkey had last year, making the lineup in a preseason game before going back to juniors.

Hunter McDonald

During the offseason, Hunter McDonald was a popular and unprompted name when GM Danny Briere and assistant GM Brent Flahr discussed defensive prospects. After getting into some pro games with the Phantoms last season, it’s time to see how that experience prepares him for this camp. He should have a leg up on several others on the roster.

Emil Andrae

One of the more experienced players in camp, Andrae got a brief taste of the NHL last season and could be one of the prospects on the radar to potentially make a push for a roster spot when main camp arrives. Showing his growth from one year to the next can especially shine among the first-timers at rookie camp.
