Flyers and Sixers Preparing for NHL and NBA Drafts while Phillies have series with Mets
The Flyers and Sixers are preparing for their respective drafts next week. This year will be a little different for the Flyers after making it to the second round of the NHL Playoffs last year. The Flyers will have the 21st pick in the first round and five picks overall in this year's NHL draft.
The Flyers have already started making moves as the draft approaches. Flyers General Manager Danny Briere sent Flyers defenseman Emil Andrae and goalie Sam Ersson along with a 2026 3rd round draft pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs for 6’4” defenseman Simon Benoit and Goalie Joseph Woll. The Flyers are hungry after a taste of last year's postseason.
A couple weeks ago, the Sixers hired their new president of basketball operations, Mike Gansey, after the front office shake up. With NBA players getting bigger and more athletic, the Sixers, who have the 22nd overall pick, should go after North Carolina Big Man Henri Veesaar. Joel Embiid is closer to the end of his career than the beginning, and the Sixers will need a big man to rival the Spurs Star Center Victor Wembanyama.
The Phillies are 40-35 and are hosting the New York Mets this weekend at Citizens Bank Park. After dropping game one of their three-game series, which resumes after an off day Friday, the Phillies look to even it up Saturday night on national TV with Cristopher Sanchez on the mound. We will cover it all this weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim.
