The NHL and NBA playoffs start this weekend and both Philadelphia Sports teams are preparing for their opponents. The Flyers made the NHL playoffs for the first time since the 2019-2020 season, but that was in the playoff bubble because of COVID so many people dont remember it.

The Flyers begin their series in Pittsburgh against the hated Penguins on Saturday night at 8pm. The Sixers won their “play-in” game against Orlando and secured their first round series against the Boston Celtics. The Sixers first game is Sunday in Boston at 1pm. Starting Saturday, there is a playoff game every night next week. Wow!! Let’s GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I attended Flyers practice on Thursday and interviewed several players. Tyson Forrester, Trevor Zegras, Sean Couturier, Garnet Hathaway and the radio voice of the Flyers Tim Saunders are pumped for this series, and we will hear what they have to say this Saturday in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim.

The 76ers face their arch nemesis Celtics for the 23rd time in their history, that’s the most playoff meetings All-time in NBA history.  The Celtics have won the last six meetings dating back to 1985. The Sixers will be without their big man Joel Embiid, who is recovering from appendicitis.  Both the Flyers and Sixers are underdogs looking to pull off upsets in the first round of the playoffs.

The Phillies have lost six of their last eight games.  The 8-10 Phillies welcome the Atlanta Braves this weekend for a three-game series. The Phillies have not played well and at times look like the Bad News Bears. Bad pitching, bad fielding, and a Lack of plate discipline by the hitters are the reasons the Phillies are 8-10. The Braves come to town in first place in the National League east in the early going of this season with a 12-7 record. We will cover it all this weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim.

On Saturday’s show, Producer Nick Earnshaw returns, and my intern Erin Ewing joins me in the studio.  We will pump you up for the Flyers vs Penguins in game one of the Stanley Cup playoffs first round.  I have several interviews with a few players from attending Flyers practice this week.  I will have a SURPISE former Flyers player at 10:30am to talk about the Flyers vs Penguins playoff series. In Hour Two, Mr. Negadelphia P.J. Corda checks in, brought to you by the Vassor Pool Service. The Negadelphian will give his thoughts on our teams making the playoffs.  Then we’ll get our “High School Athletes in the Spotlight” with Fran Mclaughlin brought to you by the Philly Pretzel Factory.

On Sunday’s show, Producer Alex Berardis and my intern Erin Ewing join me in the studio.  We will recap the Flyers Saturday night playoff game versus the Penguins.  The Phillies finish up their weekend series with the Braves on Sunday Night Baseball, and we will go “On the Mound” with former Phillies pitcher Tommy Greene brought to you by Blitz’s market of Ocean City. Tommy reviews the Phillies week and previews Sunday night's game. Then we will preview the Sixers vs Celtics game one, Tip off is 1pm on 973 ESPN. Let’s GOOOOOOOOOO!!!

All that and more this weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim, every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to Noon on 97.3 FM ESPN Radio South Jersey.
