Former Mainland Mustangs star pitcher Chase Petty is moving up.

The 19-year old from Somers Point is being elevated to the Dayton Dragons, the Cincinnati Reds High-A affiliate.

He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in last years MLB draft amd then traded to Cincinnati before the season started. He began his career with the Reds Low-A affiliate, the Daytona Tortugas.

Petty gets the call with an 0-4 record,  but a solid 3.18 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 65 innings pitched, making 12 starts for the Tortugas.

After missing his entire junior season due to COVID-19, Petty was named the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior. The Somers point resident went 6-1 with a 1.00 ERA with 99 strikeouts in 48.2 innings pitched at the Linwood school.
