Four Eagles Players Downgraded To Out For This Sunday’s Game
After two consecutive weeks on the road, the Philadelphia Eagles return home to play three of their four games in December at Lincoln Financial Field.
During their eight-game winning streak, the Eagles have navigated multiple injuries. Philadelphia's depth has come up clutch in different games, with big plays made by backups such as Tristin McCollum, Grant Calcaterra, and Nolan Smith.
The biggest news this week has been the return of Wide Receiver DeVonta Smith back to Eagles Practice. Smith did not play in Baltimore last weekend due to a Hamstring Injury he sustained on November 14th versus the Washington Commanders.
Smith's return after missing two games comes at a critical time. Philadelphia expects to be without Tight End Dallas Goedert for an indefinite period. While DeVonta Smith has practiced all week, Goedert did not participate in any practices.
Eagles Rule Out Four Players For Sunday's Game
Eagles Tight End Dallas Goedert is one of three players ruled out for Sunday's game at the Linc. Goedert, who sustained a Knee Injury in Baltimore, should return to the field in the coming weeks because he has not been placed on Injured Reserve.
This Sunday will be the fourth game that Goedert will miss due to Injury this season. In his absence, the Eagles have signed CJ Uzomoh to the Active Roster to serve as the Backup Tight End for Craig Calcaterra. The Tight End who played with Jalen Hurts at Oklahoma, Calcaterra has 17 Catches for 216 Yards this season.
The Eagles have also ruled out starting Safety Reed Blankenship. The 25-year-old sustained a Concussion last weekend in Baltimore and has not progressed enough through the NFL Concussion Protocol to be available this Sunday. Blankenship has the most Interceptions on the Eagles' Defense this season with Three and the third-most Solo Tackles with 44.
Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio confirmed to the media earlier this week that Tristin McCollum would get the reps if Blankenship was unavailable. McCollum came into the Ravens' game at Safety and made a big play to help the Eagles win in the 4th Quarter.
Philadelphia will also be with Backup Safety and Special Teams Contributor Sydney Brown. This is the second straight week the Eagles ruled out a player who plays a role on Special Teams; Last Friday, Linebacker/Fullback Ben Vansumeren sustained a season-ending Knee Injury.
One surprise name on the list of players ruled out for Sunday is Britain Covey. The Wide Receiver and Punt Returner is dealing with a Neck Injury but what a Limited Participant at practice. Doctors have not cleared him for contact and that is why he will not play against the Panthers.
There are seven players listed as Questionable for the Panthers, three of them are starters. On defense, Carolina's top Linebacker Josey Jewell is dealing with a Hamstring Issue that has limited his participation at practice this week.
Jadeveon Clowney, who leads the Panthers with Seven QB Hits this season, Did Not Practice this week. The First overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft is dealing with a Knee Issue that has impacted his play in recent weeks.
Panthers Starting Right Guard Robert Hunt is listed as Questionable with a Back Issue. Hunt is the only Carolina Offensive Player who has been on the field for every snap this season. He was a Full Participant at Friday's Practice so he is trending to play on Sunday.
Carolina has the worst Run Defense in the NFL this season and that should equal a big day for Running Back Saquon Barkley. Philadelphia's biggest free-agent addition since Terrell Owens has become a fan favorite and it is no surprise Saquon has one of the best-selling Eagles Jerseys this season:
