Hans Crouse to Make Major League Debut
With the Phillies season and N.L. East race coming down to the final days, the team has selected the contract of rookie pitcher Hans Crouse from Lehigh Valley.
To make room for him on the roster the team designated Matt Joyce for assignment.
Joyce was just 5-for-44 (.091) with two home runs this season.
Crouse was acquired in the deal along with Kyle Gibson and Ian Kennedy in exchange for Spencer Howard at the MLB trade deadline.
Crouse has a 3.28 ERA and 1.06 WHIP this season in 85 innings of the minor league play with 98 strikeouts.
Now the 23-year old, who was a second-round pick of the Texas Rangers, gets the ball in a key game againt the Pirates on Sunday.
The Phillies are 1.5 games back of the Braves with a series in Atlanta starting on Monday.
If he pitches well, he would be in line for one more start on Saturday against the Marlins in. Miami, with a chance to pitch the Phillies into the playoffs.
