Harley, Stars Down Flyers in OT
The Flyers earned a point for the first time in four games with a hard-fought effort to erase a 2-0 deficit. That was all erased in nine seconds.
A turnover allowed Jason Robertson to get the puck to Thomas Harley for his second goal of the game just nine seconds into overtime, handing the Flyers a 3-2 overtime loss to the Dallas Stars for their fourth straight defeat and ninth loss in the last 10 games on Saturday afternoon.
The Flyers came out firing, opening up a 5-0 lead in shots in the first few minutes of play. But at 6:27, the first shot on goal for the Stars found the net.
Harley fired a shot from a distance that beat Ivan Fedotov for his 14th goal of the season to make it 1-0.
Just over two minutes later, at 8:59, the second shot for the Stars also found the net. This time, Esa Lindell jumped up on the play and fired a shot from the high slot for his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0.
Through 20 minutes, shots were 8-3 Flyers. Fedotov was pulled after the first period, making one save on three shots.
In the second, the Flyers responded in the final 10 minutes to get the game tied. Travis Konecny snapped a 13-game goalless drought with his 23rd goal of the season to make it 2-1.
The Stars nearly took the lead back as Matt Duchene appeared to have Sam Ersson dead to rights, but the puck was swept out along the goal line and confirmed to be no goal after a review.
WIth 1:12 remaining in the second, the Flyers tied the game as Matvei Michkov hit a streaking Ryan Poehling with a pass and Poehling finished off his seventh goal of the season and third in the last five games to tie things up.
Through two periods, shots were 13-10 Flyers.
The Flyers outshot the Stars, 11-8, in the third, killing off two penalties and failing to score on a power play of their own.
The Stars executed a set play off the opening face-off of overtime. Robertson applied pressure in the offensive zone as Ersson came out to play the puck. Robertson gained control of the turnover off the boards, centered for Harley, and he scored his 15th goal of the season to give the Stars the win.
Jake Oettinger made 22 saves on 24 shots in the win. Ersson made 15 saves on 16 shots in relief.
