Here are the 4 Phillies Players Nominated for Gold Glove Awards
Despite not being known as a great defensive ball club, the Philadelphia Phillies finished the 2023 Regular Season with the fourth best Team Fielding Percentage in Major League Baseball (.988). On Wednesday, MLB announced the 2023 Golden Glove Award Finalists and four Phillies players were among the nominees.
The least surprising of the Phillies Gold Glove Nominees is Catcher JT Realmuto, who won the award in 2019 and 2022 as a member of the Philadelphia organization. Realmuto had the best Fielding Percentage among National League Catchers this season (.998) and threw out the third most base stealers (23). One of the other finalists is playing for the Phillies opponent in the NLCS: Diamondbacks Catcher Gabriel Moreno.
Phillies Second Baseman Bryson Stott was second in the National League in Second Baseman Fielding Percentage (..992) and the fourth best Defensive Wins Above Replacement (1.7). The last time a Phillies Second Baseman won the NL Gold Glove Award was Manny Trillo in 1982.
Two Phillies Pitchers are among the three finalists for the National League Pitcher Gold Glove Award: Taijuan Walker is one of only six pitchers with zero errors and at least 31 starts this season while Zack Wheeler is tied for the eight most Defensive Putouts by the National League Pitcher. The last time a Phillies' Pitcher won the NL Gold Glove Award was Steve Carlton in 1981.
