The Phillies could be on the verge of making history with their vacant GM position.

According to a report, the team will interview Kim Ng for the opening.

If hired, Ng would become the first female general manger in Major League Baseball history. Ng is currently the senior VP of baseball operations. She has also interviewed for multiple GM jobs in the past, but was never hired.

Also according to Jon Heyman, the Phillies are expected to interview former Marlins GM Larry Beinfast and Indians executive Ross Atkins for the position. Other candidates are likely to emerge in the coming weeks.

Ng, 46, has interviewed with the Dodgers, Angels, Mariners and twice with the San Diego Padres for their respective GM vacancies.

New team president Andy MacPhail has said in the past that he'd like to have a general manager in place by the team's organizational meetings at the end of the month.
