A South Jersey Halloween Tradition Returns Friday Night
The 71st Mays Landing Halloween Parade is set for 6:30 pm this Friday, Oct 30th.
Many towns in South Jersey have Halloween parades, but Mays Landing can rival the best.
Families, local businesses, and community organizations turn the night into a rolling spectacle down Main Street. Handmade details on floats and costumes and hometown pride help make this parade special.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Mays Landing-Egg Harbor City, the parade has been a tradition since 1954.
Expect to see a little of everything on Friday night. Creative costumes, small hand-pulled floats, community floats, marching bands, dance groups, and culminating with fire trucks and emergency vehicles as the grand finale.
The Parade Route
Mays Landing's Halloween Parade starts at INTEX on Mill Street and follows Main Street past War Memorial Park, then turns onto Farragut Avenue, and finishes at Duberson School.
Where's a Good Place to Watch?
Viewing on Main Street is excellent.
The performance area in front of War Memorial Park is where the parade entrants get their moment in the spotlight. Bands, dancers, and gymnasts bring their routines to the heart of town.
Judging Happens Before the Parade
Remember, if you are interested in competing for a prize, judging takes place at 6 pm in the Intex Solutions parking lot at 45 Mill Street.
Traffic usually gets very heavy, so allow extra time. Road restrictions will start at 5 or 5::30 pm based on previous years.
Judging categories include:
- Individual costumes, groups, and little floats pulled by hand. Age groups: 5 and under; 6–14; 15 and older
- Dancers, gymnasts, and marching bands
- Floats made by families, community organizations, and local businesses
- Teams, troops, clubs, or community groups
After the parade, all participants should meet at Duberson School for free refreshments and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies.
