If Atlantic City, NJ Mayor Is Convicted At Trial: Chaos Will Follow
If Atlantic City, New Jersey Mayor Marty Small is convicted at his criminal trial this week or next … local government chaos will surely follow.
Here’s Why:
A conviction on any of the 4 criminal charges and Marty Small will be required to forfeit his public elective office.
He will also go to prison. Small turned down a plea deal that would have resulted in no jail time … however, Small would have been barred from holding public employment.
Small has spent a lifetime in public employment.
Atlantic City Local Government Chaos Will Ensue
By definition, this would be a certainty.
If Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Is Convicted, Here’s What Happens Next
The Atlantic City Council President, Aaron “Sporty” Randolph automatically becomes Acting Mayor of Atlantic City.
During this time, Randolph also remains as a Councilman and the City Council President.
That’s the local equivalent of President Teump being: President, Speaker of The House and United States Senate Majority Leader.
This is exactly how Marty Small became Atlantic City Mayor, upon the conviction of former Mayor Frank Gilliam.
William “Speedy” Marsh also served as Acting Atlantic City Mayor, upon the federal conviction of former Atlantic City Mayor Bob Levy.
Randolph has been Atlantic City Council President since Small became Mayor.
Atlantic City Council Is Required To Meet
The 9 members of the Atlantic City Council vote to pick the next Mayor of Atlantic City.
They must choose only from a list of 3 candidates provided to them by the Atlantic City Democrat Committee.
The person who is selected Mayor continues to serve until the next step of the process.
A Special Election Is Called Next
The Atlantic City Clerk will then call for a Special Election, whereby the voters of Atlantic City will have the opportunity to elect the next Mayor of Atlantic City.
The winner will serve the remainder of the Marty Small term, which would be for more than 3 years.
Here Are The Criminal Charges That Marty Small Faces
- second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
- third-degree Terroristic Threats.
- third-degree Aggravated Assault.
- A separate Atlantic County Grand Jury also indicted Marty Small for witness tampering.
To remain office, Small will have to run the table and beat all 4 charges … or, at the minimum, receive a hung jury verdict.
La’Quetta Small Faces 1 Criminal Charge
- second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
La’Quetta Small will have a separate trial, which is currently scheduled to begin on January 15, 2026.
However, if Marty Small is exonerated at trial first, I don’t expect La’Quetta Small to stand for a criminal trial.
Developing.
