Over the last four years, the Philadelphia Eagles have invested plenty of resources to get younger on defense. The organization has selected 18 defensive players in the last four years of the NFL Draft.

The Eagles have selected five defensive players with their First Round Picks since the 2022 NFL Draft. This trend of defensive draft selections started with Defensive Tackle Jordan Davis, who was selected with the 13th overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Davis was a key player on the University of Georgia's 2021 College Football National Championship team. His freakish athleticism for a man his size (6 Feet, 6 Inches and 340 pounds his final year in college) made him a great football prospect for Philadelphia.

But the former Georgia Bulldog did not have the impact on the field that the Eagles and their fans had hoped for during his first two seasons in Philadelphia. Even though Davis played in 20 of 24 games during his first two seasons, his inconsistent play turned the first round draft pick into a part-time player.

But Jordan Davis Has Turned Around His Career Trajctory In Just 18 months

When Vic Fangio became the Eagles Defensive Coordinator, he demanded more of his players on and off the field compared to some other NFL coaches. Philadelphia prioritized conditioning heading into the 2024 season.

Davis took the challenge seriously, and started to use the exercise bike when he was not at the team facilities. The 25-year-old Defensive Tackle has lost over 30 pounds in the last 18 months, and his improved conditioning allowed him to step up, and become an important player for Philadelphia's defense on their journey to winning Super Bowl 59.

In 2025, Davis has been a force of nature, tied for the second-most Sacks on the Eagles Defense (3), and tied for the second-most Pass Batted Down by a Defensive Lineman (6) in the NFL.

Jordan Davis was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his impact on the Eagles 16-9 win over the Lions in NFL Week 11. He is the first player in Eagles Franchise History to win Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week (NFL Week 3 Kick Block and return for Touchdown) awards in the same season. Before Davis, only three other NFL players received this honor in the last 20 seasons:

-Antonio Cromartie (2007 - San Diego Chargers)
-Bryan McCann (2010 - Dallas Cowboys)
-Desmond King (2018 - Los Angeles Chargers)

One could argue that Davis has still not reached his full potential yet as a Professional Football Player. Many Eagles fans are looking forward to seeing how much better the 25-year-old Defensive Lineman will become over the next few years.
