Mainland’s Chase Petty Signs Deal with Minnesota Twins
Mainland Regional right-handed pitcher Chase Petty was drafted by the Minnesota Twins earlier this month in the MLB Draft.
On Monday he put pen to paper and officially signed his deal with the Twins.
According to Jim Callis of MLB.com, Petty will receive a $2.5 million signing bonus, which is a slightly under the slot value for the No. 26 pick of $2.6534 million.
Petty finished his senior season going 6-1 with a 1.15 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 48 ²/³ innings pitched for the Mustangs.
The Somers Point native was one of the areas top high school pitchers, leading him to be selected in the first-round of the MLB’s First-Year Player Draft.
Petty is known for his fastball, which routinely clocks in the upper 90s and has reached as high as 102. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounders repertoire also includes a slider and change-up.
Petty becomes the third Cape-Atlantic League player to join the Twins organization, joining 2021 Oakcrest alum Cody Stashak, who is currently on the 60-day injured list with a back injury. 2016 Ocean City graduate, Sean Mooney is pitching for the Twins’ Low-A affiliate in Fort Myers.
