New Jersey Figure Skater Returns to Competition at World Championships
Most people associate great Ice Skaters with states with cold winter climates such as Minnesota and Michigan. But did you know that New Jersey has its own lineage of talented Skaters?
-Recently Deceased Johnny Gaudreau (Salem) was a seven-time All-Star in the NHL
-Figure Skating Legend Dick Button (Englewood) was a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist (1948, 1952)
-Ross Colton (Robbinsville) was a member of the 2021 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning
-Tara Lipinski was born in Philadelphia and lived part of her childhood in Sewell, New Jersey, years before winning Olympic Gold in 1998
-2015 NHL All-Star Bobby Ryan (Cherry Hill) was the second overall pick in the 2005 NHL Draft
-Elaine Zayak (Paramus) was the 1982 Women's Figure Skating World Champion
Continuing the tradition is a young lady from South Jersey who made her return to International Competition in 2025 after sustaining an injury last year. She is ramping up to earn a spot on the 2026 United States Olympic Team.
Mount Holly Resident Competes at World Figure Skating Championships
Born in Philadelphia, 18-year-old Isabeau Levito lives and trains in South Jersey. After winning the Silver Medal at the 2024 World Championships, her training was derailed by an injury six months later.
Levito was diagnosed with a stress reaction in her right foot after experiencing pain during Skate America in October 2024. She would miss several competitions in the coming months, including the United States Figure Skating Championships in January 2025.
She was named to the US Team for the World Championships based on her resume as the 2023 US Women's Figure Skating Champion. With the next Olympics in 2026 in Milano, Italy, events like the World Championships are important measuring sticks to see who may be the best competitors.
Isabeau Levito finished in fourth place overall at the 2025 Figure Skating World Championships, her first competition since her injury in Fall of 2024. A major accomplishment for the South Jersey Figure Skater who plans to compete for the 2026 US Olympic Team.
