New Jersey Governor Just Entered One of the Region’s Biggest Debates

From the Jersey Shore to Philadelphia, everyone loves to debate which establishments have the best food options. People have their favorite pizza, cheesesteaks, craft beer, and burgers they love to recommend to anyone who will listen.

We all know people who "swear" that a specific pizzeria is the best or who want to tell everyone why everyone has to go visit a specific chinese restaurant who they claim is "the best".

Over the decades, cheesesteaks have become synonymous with Philadelphia, and many South Jersey restaurants have either copied or made their own versions of the "Philly Cheesesteak". But there is an alternative version called by some people the "Atlantic City style", and seven South Jersey businesses made the list of the Best Cheesesteaks in New Jersey.

This NJ Politician Makes Bold Proclamation over the weekend

Heading into this past weekend, Camden County hosted SoccerFest26 at the Camden Waterfront, where people came out to watch World Cup matches while enjoying numerous local food and drink vendors.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill joined state and county politicians at this event, where thousands of people visited the Camden Waterfront for SoccerFest26. During her speech to the crowd, the first-year NJ Governor made a bold statement:

"The secret is the best cheesesteaks are not across the river, they're right here at Donkey's (in Camden) - I was just there, (cheesesteak I had there) was fantastic."

The establishment that Governor Sherrill referenced, Donkey's Place, has a 4.7-star rating on Google Reviews, and was Anthony Bourdain's favorite cheesesteak establishment. So is a strong choice to go "head-to-head" with the famous Philly Cheesteak spots like Pat's, Gino's, Dalessandro's, Jim's, and Sonny's.

I understand that the intention of the New Jersey Governor is to promote her state with tens of thousands of visitors coming to The Garden State for the World Cup and Summer Vacations. But for some people, food debates are sacred, and I'm not sure if a politician weighing in will be a welcome participant in the ongoing debates.
