As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for game No. 19 on the season against the Los Angeles Rams in a NFC Divisional game this Sunday, they could have an additional game on their schedule in the near future.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed as a guest on Bloomberg TV's The David Rubenstein Show: Peer to Peer Conversationsthat getting the league to an 18 game regular season is the logical next step. With an 18 game regular season, there would be two preseason games.

He added he would like to get that done before the 2030 collective bargain expires.

"We would keep within that 20-game framework," Goodell said. "We went to 16 and four, and now 17 and three. So 18 and two is a logical step."

The league went to its current 17 game format with three preseason games in 2021.

Adding an 18th game would be nine home games at Lincoln Financial Field and of course nine opportunities for a road trip to see the Eagles play on the road.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio suggested that he believes it's only a matter of time before the league gets to 20 regular season and no preseason games, which would give Eagles fans 10 opportunities to see the Eagles in Philadelphia and 10 road trip opportunities.
