When the Philadelphia Flyers ended their six-game losing streak last Monday, Travis Konecny put the team on his back offensively and the goaltending did the rest. That was nearly the formula on Wednesday night.

Konecny picked up a hat trick, his third goal tying the game with 4:46 remaining in the third period. But despite the best efforts of Dan Vladar, the Flyers could not finish the job. Sean Monahan scored with 3:28 to play, as the Columbus Blue Jackets handed the Flyers a 5-3 loss, their ninth in the last 11 games.

It didn't take long for the Blue Jackets to get on the board. Just 38 seconds into the game, they cashed in on a Flyers turnover, with Charlie Coyle getting the payoff for his 12th goal of the season.

The Flyers tied the game at 9:03. Konecny fired a shot for his 18th goal of the season to make it 1-1.

In the final minute of the first, Columbus took the lead. Owen Tippett was taken down by Zach Werenski and no call was made. Werenski set up Kirill Marchenko for his 19th goal of the season with 20 seconds remaining in the period to make it 2-1.

Through 20 minutes, shots were 7-7.

Just 1:58 into the second, Columbus added to the lead. Erik Gudbranson fired a shot from distance that beat a screened Vladar for his first of the season, extending the lead to two.

Through two periods, shots were 23-13 Columbus.

The Flyers got a huge save from Vladar early in the period, that was confirmed no goal after a review. At 4:08, the Flyers cut the lead to one as Konecny scored his second of the game.

Konecny tied the game with 4:46 to play, finishing off a great feed from Travis Sanheim. But the Blue Jackets responded just 1:18 later, taking advantage of another defensive breakdown. Damon Severson found Monahan wide open on the weak side for his ninth goal of the season to give the Blue Jackets the lead again.

Mathieu Olivier iced the game with an empty-net goal with 1:06 to play.

Vladar finished with 26 saves on 30 shots in the loss. Elvis Merzlikins made 23 saves on 26 shots in the win.

Coyle, Olivier, Werenski, and Cole Sillinger each had two points for Columbus.

The Flyers are right back on the ice on Thursday night as they complete the back-to-back against the Boston Bruins at 7 p.m.
