Flyers Sign Forward Michael Bunting to 1-Year Deal
In an effort to help get back in the right direction after a rudderless 0-2-2 start to the season, the Philadelphia Flyers are bringing in some short-term veteran help.
The Flyers have signed forward Michael Bunting to a one-year deal with a $1.2 million cap hit. TSN's Darren Dreger was the first to report.
Bunting, 31, has played for six teams over his seven seasons in the NHL. After starting his career in Arizona, playing 26 total games over two seasons, Bunting became a regular NHLer in Toronto. His first season was a career year with 23 goals and 63 points in 79 games. He followed it up with another 23-goal season with 49 points in 82 games.
He made stops in Carolina, Pittsburgh, Nashville, and Dallas since then. He has 109 goals and 252 points in 418 career games. In 74 games last season, he scored 14 goals and had 33 points.
It's notable that Bunting is a winger, joining an already crowded group. The Flyers got Denver Barkey back for Monday's game and Alex Bump sat out as a healthy scratch. It's possible Bump could return to the minors. Garrett Wilson is on a two-way deal. Carl Grundstrom already cleared waivers and can be sent down if the team decides that's the option they want to take.
It's uncertain if Bunting will be available to play in Thursday's game against Ottawa. If not, he would very likely debut on Saturday against Boston.
