For most of the weeks leading up to the NHL Draft, there was a lot of talk about the Flyers looking to add a center. There were going to be plenty of them available. But as the week of the draft progressed, the Flyers acquired a player they feel will be a center for them, and the possibility of adding a winger became a more realistic possibility.

With the sixth overall pick in the NHL Draft, the Flyers selected right winger Porter Martone.

Martone is 6’3”, 205 pounds, and had 37 goals and 61 assists for 98 points in 57 games with Brampton in the OHL. He appeared in three games in the World Junior Championships and scored one goal. He also played in two games with Team Canada in World Championships last month and had no points.

The Flyers also have the 22nd and 31st overall picks in the first round on Friday night.
