The Philadelphia Flyers had not had a four-game winning streak all season. On Thursday night, they were unable to reach that mark for the first time.

The Utah Mammoth scored twice in the second period on the way to a 3-0 win over the Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

How It Happened

It was a low-event first period, with both teams finishing with four shots on goal apiece. The Flyers had the lone power play of the period and were unable to take advantage.

The Mammoth got a power play early in the second and made quick work of it. Dylan Guenther set up Nick Schmaltz at the side of the net for his 24th goal of the season at 1:38. Utah added to the lead at 8:03, as Clayton Keller got a partial breakaway and beat Dan Vladar through the five-hole to make it 2-0. Utah outshot the Flyers, 14-7, in the period.

The Flyers were unable to take advantage of two more power plays in the third. Michael Carcone scored into an empty-net to cap the scoring. Vitek Vanecek finished off the shutout with 16 saves.

The Takeaway

Not much to take away from this one. The Flyers saw their three-game winning streak come to an end in underwhelming fashion. And with the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, it should provide all the information Danny Briere needs for what the course of action should be on Friday.
