Phillies Acquire Right-Hander Yunior Marte from Giants
The Philadelphia Phillies on Monday acquired Yunior Marte from San Francisco Giants in exchange for Erik Miller in a trade of bullpen arms.
Marte, who turns 29 on Feb. 2, went 1-1 with a 5.44 ERA in 39 appearances for the Giants last season. Topa also had 44 strikeouts in 48 innings and had a 1.44 WHIP, walking 22 batters, giving up 47 hits.
Miller, a 24-year old lefty, compiled a 3.54 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 62 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings (32 appearances, seven starts) last season between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Marte joins a growing list of bullpen arms that will compete for relief innings in Clearwater at Spring Training. The team added Gregory Soto, Craig Kimbrel and Matt Strahm, who join Seranthony Dominguez and Jose Alvarado in the back-end of the Phillies bullpen.
