The Philadelphia Phillies started the second half of the season at home against the hated New York Mets. The Mets took game one 4-1 as Aaron Nola suffered another loss, and got no help from Trea Turner horrible defense at Shortstop.  When Nola pitches, the Phillies better score at least 4 runs or more. The Phillies bats went silent, registering only one run on four hits.

The Phillies schedule doesn’t get any easier because after the Mets, they face the Dodgers and then the Yankees come to town. Then the Phillies hit the road and head to Miami, where the Marlins are breathing down the Phillies back in the National League East Standings.

The Philadelphia Eagles are 11 days away from training camp.. That’s right, football is almost back. Beach goers will be throwing the football around the beach, and fans can’t wait for the Birds to return for the 2026 season.

The return of football also reminds us of how tough this game is.  The appeal of the game is the toughness, the big hits, the great runs, the unbelievable catches, but people don’t realize the price that is paid to their bodies.  The athletes who make a lot of money also pay a big price after the game is over.

This Saturday in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim, we will cover all the hot topics plus we’ll talk with Lawyer and author Craig Mitnick, who wrote a book about the consequences from concussions. The book is a great read, and is a first-hand account of Craig’s relationships with players who have suffered brain injuries and the effect it has had on former players and their families.

On Saturday’s show, Producer Nick Earnshaw joins me in the studio.  We will recap the All-Star week in Philadelphia, and the Phillies vs Mets series.  At the bottom of the first hour, we will hear from author Craig Mitnick whose book “The Illusion of Justice” a firsthand account of power, greed, and broken promises behind the NFL concussion settlement.  In Hour Two, it’s our Beach Patrol report with Jack Brooks brought to you by McCann Realtors of Sea Isle City and the Ocean City BP Lifeguard Alumni Association.  This week, we will play all my interviews from the Beschen- Callahan Memorial Lifeguard races in North Wildwood.

On Sunday's show, joining me in studio are Alex Berardis and Vince Focht.  In Hour One, the guys will talk Phillies Baseball and go “On The Mound” with former Phillies Pitcher Tommy Greene brought to you by Blitz’s Market of Ocean City.  Tommy will give us his insight on the Phillies.
