Two Phillies Prospects Set to Represent in MLB Futures Game
Part of the bigger picture for the Philadelphia Phillies ahead of the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline is understanding how other teams view their prospects and what trade assets they are willing to move.
There are five Phillies Prospects on the Top 100 Baseball Prospects list:
-Pitcher Andrew Painter (5th)
-Shortstop Aidan Miller (20th)
-Outfielder Justin Crawford (49th)
-Catcher Eduardo Tait (69th)
-Pitcher Mick Abel (98th)
Each summer, the All-Star Futures Game features the best prospects in Minor League Baseball. This year, nine National League teams have multiple prospects on the all-star roster, and the Phillies are one of those organizations.
Which Phillies Top Prospects Were Selected?
The obvious name selected for the 2025 MLB All-Star Futures Game is Phillies top prospect Andrew Painter. After missing two years as he recovered from Tommy John Surgery, Painter has returned to action in 2025 with 57 Strikeouts in his first 51.2 Innings Pitched combined between Single-A and Triple-A.
But some people will be disappointed to hear that Andrew Painter will not pitch in the 2025 MLB All-Star Futures Game. Phillies Manager Rob Thomson told the media on Monday that the organization still plans to shut down Painter from any pitching during the MLB All-Star Break and then resume his pitching program for the rest of July.
The second Phillies prospect selected for the MLB All-Star Futures Game is Philadelphia's number four-ranked player, Eduardo Tait. The soon-to-be 19-year-old Catcher has 10 Home Runs and 42 RBI in 65 games played this year at Single-A Clearwater.
Tait's addition to the MLB All-Star Futures game could be an opportunity for the Phillies to showcase their young Catching Prospect for other teams who may be interested in trading for him. Philadelphia does not have many valuable trade assets, and Tait is three to four years away from reaching the Major League level.
Last year, the Phillies' two prospects in the MLB All-Star Futures Game were Shortstop Aiden Miller and Outfielder Justin Crawford. Many Baseball Insiders have reported that Philadelphia wants Miller and Crawford to start the 2026 season with the big league club by Opening Day next year .
Past Phillies Prospects in the MLB All-Star Futures Game include:
-Mick Abel (Pitcher, 2023)
-Logan O'Hoppe (Catcher, 2022 - Traded to the Angels)
-Bryson Stott (Shortstop, 2021)
-Alec Bohm (Third Base, 2019)
-Rhys Hoskins (1st Base, 2017)
-Maikel Franco (Third Base, 2013 and 2014)
