One of Cape May’s Most Popular Restaurants Is Receiving Liquor License
For almost 200 years, Cape May has been one of the most popular Shore Towns in the United States. The southernmost New Jersey community is one of the most popular destination town for day trips and vacationers for decades.

There are over 20 Restaurants in Cape May serving adult beverages to patrons during the summer months. But starting in October, a popular restaurant on the Cape Island will be allowed to serve liquor under special conditions.
What Cape May Restaurant Will Now Be Serving Adult Beverages?
Over the last decade, Peter Shields Restaurant and Inn has been one of the most popular fine dining establishments in Cape May. Located at the corner of Beach Avenue and Trenton Avenue, this building was originally built in the early 1900s and now gets to enter a new era for the property.
The Cape May City Council unanimously approved transferring a pocket liquor license to the Peter Shields Inn and Restaurant. The liquor license formerly assigned to Carpenter Street Hospitality Inc. already received transfer clearance from the City of Cape May Zoning Office and Police Department.
The list of special conditions for Peters Shields Restaurant and Inn receiving the liquor license includes:
*Limiting alcohol service to guests
*Restricting the sale of alcohol to customers indoors
*Exception to indoor rule is for a designated number of special events (for example: weddings) during which outdoor service would be allowed
*Prohibition of seating at a proposed service bar
As of the writing of this article, there have been zero posts on the Peter Shields Restaurant's Facebook or Instagram about the approved liquor license transfer. The Cape May Fine Dining establishment is currently open Thursday through Monday during October.
