It was announced back in December that the intersection of Oak and Zion Road in Northfield would be a four-way stop intersection to address a history of accidents at the location.

That change is coming on April 1.

From the city of Northfield:

For decades, the intersection of Oak Avenue and Zion Road has caused caution and chaos with a mix of  "who blinks first," and some good-natured yielding.  Some of these practices have caused accidents, now they are going to try something new.

I make the drive down Zion and turn left onto Oak every day at the blinking yellow light at the intersection and while I have never seen an accident, I can easily imagine one happening. There are stop signs for the drivers coming down Oak Ave with the yellow light facing drivers on Zion Road. This setup has led to countless moments of uncertainty, particularly when multiple vehicles approach the intersection at once.

According to the new county ordinance, the yellow light will now flash red both ways, and there will be stop signs at all four corners.

Adding a four-way stop doesn't solve all problems, ask the drivers who use West Jersey Ave in Egg Harbor Township about the chaos back there.

We shall see if this new four-way stop helps out this situation in Northfield.
