South Jersey college radio students win new national recognition
Everyone loves to talk about the importance of education: Politicians pontificate about it, Celebrities raise money for it, and Non-Profit Organizations award scholarships for it.
But none of these people talk about what happens when young people arrive at Colleges and Universities. For everyday people, higher education is a major expense, forcing many prospective students and families to make decisions about the future based on what they can afford.
Since 2023, Community College enrollment has increased by almost 10 percent, with approximately a quarter of all High School Graduates in the United States opting for 2-year colleges in recent years.
New Jersey is the number one state in the country with the largest percentage of 2-year college students who transfer to Universities to further their higher education journey.
This means that Community College education and opportunities in NJ are very important for students working towards their future.
This South Jersey Community College Receives National Awards
Getting the opportunity for real-world experiences is what makes Camden County College one of the most unique 2-year colleges in New Jersey.
The Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts (AIVA) announced the winners of the 2026 Communicator Awards, with 91.5 WDBK-FM earning two honors:
*General-Program Excellence - Play by Play Coverage of the North Atlantic District / Region 19 Tournament: Camden County College vs RCSJ
-Camden County College Student Broadcasters Vincent Focht and Jordan Leopold
-Camden County College Student Producer Ian Brown
*General-Interview Excellence - 1st and Yonder (A CCC Student Podcast): The Emory Hunt Interview
-Camden County College Radio Student Host Jarrett George
91.5 WDBK-FM is the student radio station at Camden County College, whose supervisor brings real-world experience to the young adults.
Radio Station Coordinator Nick Earnshaw is also a Producer and On-Air-Contributor for both 975 The Fanatic in Philadelphia and 973 ESPN Radio in South Jersey. Earnshaw graduated from Camden County College in 2020, and is giving the students at the radio station real-world media training.
I spoke to Earnshaw about this unique honor that the students achieved:
"(Winning these awards) is a testament to the hard work of the students of 91.5 WDBK-FM and (Camden College College). I cannot be prouder of all of our student broadcasts, so credit to the (student broadcasters)."
Congratulations to Camden County College Students and 91.5 WDBK-FM for achieving national recognition. More good news is that when these students finish up at CCC, they have some great options to further their education in New Jersey:
