St. Joe’s Academy of Hammonton Will Have a New Sports Home
After two years of playing football without a home, the St. Joe's Academy Wildcats football team have a new home field.
After playing their home games at Buena Regional high school in 2020, they will play a game at Capella Memorial Field in Hammonton on Oct. 22 against Washington Twp and any playoff home games will also be held there, all of their other games have been and will be on the road this season.
Their former home, Bill Bendig Field on Wood Street, sits vacant with overgrown weeds and grass.
However, starting next season, that will change.
The school and Town of Hammonton reached an agreement to develop a new turf field located at the Hammonton Recreational Complex at 1111 Moss Mill Road, which will be used to host football, boys’ and girls’ soccer and lacrosse, field hockey practices, and other sports-related games and events per a press release from the school.
“Through our partnership with the Town of Hammonton, the new turf field will greatly improve the playing experience for SJA’s student-athletes and Hammonton’s youth athletes,” according to Jeff Umosella, SJA’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “We’re extremely excited to get started on the construction. It’s a project that will undoubtedly enhance and contribute to the continued success of SJA and Hammonton. I sincerely thank the Mayor and Town Council, among others, for their vision and cooperation on this project.”
