Summer heats up with Beach Football League coming to Wildwood, New Jersey
While the National Football League became Americans' Favorite Sport in the 1970s, we have seen the sport reach new levels of popularity over the last 40 years. Thanks to the evolution of television broadcasts along with the mainstream acceptance of recreational sports betting games, American Football is at its peak popularity.
In the 2028 Olympics, Flag American Football will make its debut on the biggest stage of International Competition. The NFL's investment in Youth Flag Football Leagues has grown that variant of the sport over the last 25 years.
With the popularity of American Football from Youth Sports to Professional levels, one Super Bowl Champion is bringing his brand of the game to New Jersey Beaches this Summer, and fans will have the opportunity to attend this all-day event.
The Beach Football League Coming To South Jersey In June
Two-time Super Bowl Champion Linebacker Tully Banta-Cain first dreamed of making Beach Football a reality over five years ago. Now, for Summer 2025, he is bringing the BFL tour to New Jersey.
The Schellenger Avenue Beach in Wildwood will host the BFL Wildwood Open Saturday and Sunday, June 7th and 8th. There will be an 8-team double-elimination tournament that will feature attendance by former Philadelphia Eagles Desean Jackson and Malik Jackson, along with former NFL Running Back Clinton Portis.
Malik Jackson won a Super Bowl Championship with the Denver Broncos before playing two seasons with the Eagles (2019-2020). Desean Jackson is one of the best Wide Receivers in Eagles history with the third-most receiving yards in franchise history (6,512) in 95 games played.
Former New England Patriots Linebacker Tully Banta-Cain was a guest on The Locker Room with Billy Schweim on 973 ESPN South Jersey and gave details about the BFL coming to Wildwood:
"The Beach Football League is having open tryouts in Wildwood, New Jersey on (June) 7th...So in two weeks uh we'll be out there on the beach. It's a new league that's on the beach with (former) NFL players, and it's flag and tackle depending on which one you sign up for So anybody can come down there and sign up - We're evaluating everybody that (comes) out there but people can bring their own teams (as well).
We did an event last year in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire and as a result, now we're in eight locations including Wildwood. We're excited man, it's going to be basically a party festival on the beach with football - We're going to have a beer garden out there (with) Mudhen Brewing Company (in Wildwood) will be pouring (along with) Sun Cruiser (Iced Tea Vodka and Lemonade Vodka)."
