Wayne Simmonds announced his retirement on Monday and will sign a one-day contract with the Flyers on April 13.

Toronto got a goal late in the second period on a counter-rush to take a two-goal lead and never looked back, handing the Flyers a sixth straight loss by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday night. 

Auston Matthews scored his 51st goal of the season and Morgan Rielly had three points as the Leafs finished off a 6-3 decision on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Center. 

In the end, Giroux ultimately held the keys to his destination. Florida was where he wanted to be. That left the Flyers limited in what they could get in return. If nothing else, the return in the Giroux deal is more of a reality of what the state of the Flyers is and remains after this trade, and the result of years of shortcomings by the organization.

Giroux scored twice in the championship game against the Central Division after scoring a goal and adding an assist in the first game of Saturday afternoon’s event to take home MVP honors.
