Our way of life has been challenged throughout our history.

In the past 125 years, our country has been through two World Wars, the Great Depression, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

The last pandemic the world endured, and greatly affected the hard working citizens of America, was the Spanish Flu of 1918, which lasted from February 1918 to April 1920.

Today, it's the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on our financial stability, immeasurable health care system and our free and independent lives as we have grown to love. The Covid-19 pandemic is continuing to rear its ugly head as sports in America tries to return.

The new challenge we face is how to restart and keep the players free of exposure from this ruthless virus and provide the American people with the comfort of America’s greatest pastime.

Major League baseball opened its season last week with hopes of the teams making it through without their players being affected..that didn’t happen.

The Miami Marlins went to play the Philadelphia Phillies in a three game set on the 24th of July. After game one, several Marlins’ players tested positive for the Coronavirus. The total number of Marlins’ players testing positive has reached 17, just two days later. The Phillies only had two positive results, staff, not players, among the infected. As a result, the Marlins and Phillies have suspended their seasons until further notice.

The NBA and the NHL are resuming their play in locations distant from family and friends in the Bubble, quarantined away from the public.

That may be the best plan of attack for keeping players and staff Covid free during the remainder of their season.

We will discuss the ramifications of the challenges ahead for the leagues on The Locker Room with Billy Schweim, Saturday morning from 10am to noon on 97.3 ESPN radio.

On tomorrow's show we will continue our “Push for Propp” into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
