Two Eagles Rookies Land on CBS Sports’ Preseason All-Rookie Team
The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2024 draft class received positive reviews from most draft publications.
What kind of impact will the Eagles rookie class have this season?
On Monday, CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso, who gave the Eagles’ draft class an A-, named two Eagles rookies to his 2024 NFL Preseason All-Rookie Team, with one surprise entry to the list.

LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. makes First Team All-Rookie
Trotter making the first team at linebacker is a bit of a surprise, with his status in limbo. Right now it seems he is behind veterans Devin White and Nakobe Dean for snaps at the position, but what a boost it would be to get this level of play from the rookie in 2024.
He was one of two linebackers projected to earn preseason All-Rookie honors along with the Steelers Payton Wilson, who was taken in the third-round by Pittsburgh.
Trotter's instincts compensate for his lesser athletic profile, and the Eagles scheme linebacker production as well as any team in football because of their uber-talented and deep defensive front.
So far, during the first few days of training camp, new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio hasn't given a lot of clues of what he is thinking at the position.
I like Zach [Baun]. He's a guy that's played very little inside linebacker in his career. We think he can do it. Obviously, Devin [White] has had a career where he has done it; Nakobe [Dean] has shown that he can do it in college. Really hadn't had the opportunity to do it here because his first year he was behind two good players and last year he was injured. Same thing with [LB Jeremiah] Trotter [Jr.], [LB] Ben [VanSumeren], [LB] Oren [Burks], they're all in the mix really.
DraftKings Sportsbook has Trotter with +6000 odds to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, so again, this seems to be a big surprise. Wilson is +3000, while two other rookie linebackers who made second-team and honorable mention, Edgerrin Cooper of the Packers is +3500 and Junior Colson is +4000.
CB Quinyon Mitchell on First Team All-Rookie
Mitchell and Terrion Arnold of the Lions made the first-team, while Nate Wiggins of the Ravens (Second Team) and the Commanders Chigozie Anusiem was named honorable mention.
Mitchell and Arnold were my favorite cornerbacks in the 2024 class. They have it all. Mitchell has All-Pro upside. Arnold will be a steady pro for the next decade in Detroit. Man, zone, tackling, blitzing, ball skills.
Mitchell and Cooper DeJean were taken help sure up the Eagles secondary, but its Michell who has a leg up right now with Cooper out for about three weeks with a leg injury.
DeJen was listed as the second-team slot corner.
DeJean will probably play four or five different positions in Philadelphia, and I love him most as a slot defender. He has the athletic prowess to live -- and thrive -- in space, and he will find the football.
Both will look to compete for playing time with a crowded cornerback field, but Mitchell is starting to quickly move up the Eagles depth chart.
"He's a talented guy, said Fangio. "He's smart. Has a good football feel. All of that really is more than I thought he had just from watching the college tape, so that's been a plus."
"I think he's a guy we can move around anywhere in the coverage part."
