These Two Phillies Are In The Top Four National League All-Star Voting
Despite a rough weekend in Baltimore and losing 2 out of 3 to the Orioles, the Philadelphia Phillies have the best record in the National League. Ahead of Monday Night's home game versus the San Diego Padres, the Phillies have a 47-24 record, which is three more wins than the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In the aftermath of Dodgers' Mookie Betts breaking his left hand after being hit by a pitch, Bryce Harper is now second in the Sportsbook odds for the National League MVP Award. Harper is top five in the National League in On-Base Percentage (.390 - 5th) and Slugging Percentage (.519 - 3rd) along with seventh most Runs Batted In (46).
Two Phillies Players Among Top 3 in All-Star Voting
The first round of All-Star Voting results was announced Monday afternoon and Bryce Harper was revealed to be number one in the National League voting for all positions. The Phillies First Baseman has received 1,110,562 votes so far, which is 86,872 ahead of the player who is second-place in the National League voting, the Dodgers' Mookie Betts.
While Harper being a top voter-getter is not surprising, the Phillies player who is joining him in the top four may shock some people. With 1,012,174 votes so far, Phillies Third Baseman Alec Bohm has the third most votes of any player in the National League. Bohm is 9,797 votes ahead of the Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani.
Despite a hitting slump for a couple of weeks, Alec Bohm leads the National League in Doubles (26) and has the second most Runs Batted In (57). The Phillies Third Baseman is having the best season of his career and has 745,111 more votes than the Padres Manny Machado who is in second place.
Other Phillies who are in contention for NL All-Star Game Voting:
-Catcher JT Realmuto is in second place with 558,624 votes. Even though Realmuto will miss at least a month due to Knee Surgery, the Phillies catcher is 187,837 behind the Brewers' William Contreras
-Phillies Shortstop Trea Turner is returning from a Hamstring Injury on Monday, June 17th and on the same day it is announced he is in second place in the All-Star voting for his position. Even though Mookie Betts has a strong lead in the voting, the broken hand injury has landed the Dodgers MVP Candidate on the Injured List. This can open the door for Turner to start in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
-Second Baseman Bryson Stott has the third-most votes for his position but is 126,753 behind Padres Second Baseman Luis Arraez. Stott is also 122,492 votes behind Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte, which means Stott is on the outside looking in for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
-Phillies Designated Hitter Kyle Schwarber is surprisingly in third place in the MLB All-Star voting so far. With just 435,416 and almost 600,000 behind the Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani, it seems unlikely that Schwarber can be a starter for this year's all-star game. He could still make it as a reserve but we will have to wait and see.
-Despite all three having below-average seasons at the plate, the Phillies Outfielders are currently in fifth, sixth, and seventh place in the NL All-Star Voting. Brandon Marsh has 521,461 votes while Nick Castellanos has received 439,764 votes. On the same day the Phillies announced they are sending Johan Rojas to the Minor Leagues to make room on the roster for Trea Turner, the NL All-Star voting has Rojas receiving 363,047 votes.
Aside from Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm, I would predict the most like Phillies position player to make the 2024 MLB All-Star Game is Trea Turner. He could receive enough votes to be the starter at Shortstop.
With Realmuto expected to miss most of July while he recovers from Knee Surgery, the other Phillies player who could make the All-Star team is Kyle Schwarber. The Phillies DH has the eight most Home Runs in the National League (14) along with the third most Runs Scored (50) and leads the NL with 51 Walks.
