There are so many to choose from in the state of New Jersey, but South Jersey has some really good ones.

To celebrate National Sandwich Day, which was on Nov 3, NJ.com ranked the 33 best sandwiches in the entire state with eight sandwiches from the Southern part of the state making the list.

The list was compiled by NJ.com food writers Peter Genovese and Jeremy Schneider.

Let's take a look at the very best sandwiches in South Jersey

First up, coming in at No. 31 on the list is the Pork belly Cubano at Five Girls Sandwich Shop in North Wildwood.

A great Cubano in Wildwood? The one at Five Girls Sandwich Shop is not only first-rate, it may be the biggest Cubano anywhere. It packs in slow-cooked pork belly, sliced ham, Swiss, whole grain mustard spread and house pickles.

Five GIrls is closed for the season, but when it opens, check them out at 2010 New Jersey Ave, in North Wildwood.

At No. 29 we head out to Cherry Hill for the G.B.M.F. sandwich from The Kibitz Room.

For that instant Instagram classic, order the G.B.M.F. (stands for Great Big Mouthful), a towering sandwich “for at least 3-4 people,” with corned beef, pastrami, turkey, roast beef, brisket, coleslaw, Russian dressing, Swiss, lettuce, tomato and onion. The roast beef is nice and red-rare, and the open faced Reuben — mine with pastrami and corned beef — is a sauerkraut-topped wonder.

The Kibitz Room is located at 100 Springdale Rd. in Cherry Hill.

We head out to Haddonfield for the next sandwich on the list, which came in at No. 24, the Chicken Cutlet from Cafe Lift.

A golden-brown chicken cutlet, crispy exterior and juicy interior, is topped with a bitey broccoli rabe, fresh mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, pecorino and aioli; and nestled between delightful focaccia bread that’s airy and moist but still crispy.
The broccoli rabe adds a slight bitterness to the sandwich that partners well with the sweet and tangy tomato that seeps into the cutlet and satisfying focaccia.

Cafe Lift is located at 144 Kings Hwy E, Haddonfield.

At No. 23 its the Oven-roasted pork sandwich from Di’nics in West Collingswood Heights.

Di’nics and John’s Roast Pork are the Philly roast pork legends, and it’s great to see Di’nics on this side of the river. The roast pork is made with special spices “that have been passed down for centuries.” Centuries? Whatever, it’s a great sandwich.

Don't like meat? No worries, try the Vegan crab cake sandwich from Good Earth Organic Eatery in West Cape May which was No. 14 on the list

Not all sandwiches need to be meaty. The vegan crab cake sandwich at Good Earth, made with chickpeas, heart of palm, spinach, arugula and homemade pickled onion, is a winner. The homemade ranch dressing adds pep and pizazz.

Stop by Good Earth Organic Eatery at 600 Park Blvd in West Cape May,

Coming in at No. 12 on the list is Rose’s Special from Del Buono’s Bakery/Carmen’s Deli in Bellmawr.

The Rose’s Special sub, with capicola, prosciutto, regular and sharp provolone, sopressata and roasted red peppers, is named after a former owner. I call it South Jersey’s best sub. Or hoagie. Carmen’s was one of ten finalists in our statewide best sub/hoagie shop showdown.

You can grab this sandwich at 319 S Black Horse Pike in Haddon Heights.

As we enter the Top 10, at No. 9 on the list, is the cheesesteak from Donkey’s Place in Camden.

A Camden bar serving great cheesesteaks? Must be Donkey’s Place, where you can hear and smell steak sizzling and onions popping on the grill.

Finally, the highest-ranked sandwich on the list from South Jersey comes in at No. 5 overall, The Blado from Water Dog Smoke House in Ventnor

Everyone told me to try the bagels, and they’re ok, but the sandwiches are monstrous and marvelous, especially the Blado, with roast beef, pepper jack cheese, horseradish sauce and slaw.

What was the No. 1 overall sandwich in New Jersey? The Roast beef and mozzarella sandwich from Fiore’s in Hoboken.

If I had to take one sandwich to the pearly gates, or my desert island, make it this one. The origins of Fiore’s legendary roast beef and mozzarella sandwich go back to around 1960, when the deli started offering a special sandwich each day — roast beef, sausage, tuna, Virginia ham.
