Washington Street in Cape May, NJ, Among Most Charming in America

A popular South Jersey street known for its with restaurants, shopping and unique stores was named one of "America's 100 Most Charming Main Streets".

Since 1971, with over 75 stores, shops and restaurants, Washington Street in Cape May has been nestled just off the beaches and among the Victorian houses, giving locals and tourists a great opportunity for year-round shopping and other great activates.

Why did Washington Street make the list?

"This charming Victorian street features shops, restaurants, while its nearby beaches, Cape May Lighthouse, and annual Cape May Music Festival contribute to its iconic Jersey Shore atmosphere."

Washington Street was one of three main streets in New Jersey to be included on the list, coming in at No. 61 overall. The other two New Jersey streets to make the list were Bloomfield Avenue in Montclair, which was No. 21 on the the national list and Bridge Street in Lambertville, which was No. 49 overall.

How did they come up with this list?

Online panel survey of 3,000 adults based on age, gender, and geography. Internal data sources are used to obtain population data sets. We used a two-step process to ensure representativeness through stratified sampling and post-stratification weighting. April 2024.
