Eagles’ best number: 3 (Jalen Hurts touchdown passes)

Eagles’ worst number: minus-5 (Makai Lemon receiving yardage)

View from my living room:
I watched the game a day after attending my 50th high school reunion as a member of Lower Cape May Regional’s Class of ’76. A fun time was had by all at both the Rusty Nail on Friday and La Mer Resort on Saturday.

Three stars

  1. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (3 TD passes and key 22-yard run on a third-and-18).
  2. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (2 TD receptions).
  3. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (2 TD passes).

Eagles’ best play

Hurts took off on a third-and-18 play and sprinted up the middle for 22 yards in the fourth quarter. Three plays later, Goedert scored the decisive TD on a 43-yard catch and run.

Eagles’ worst play

Rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon had a rough debut. He caught three passes for minus-5 yards, losing yardage on two of his receptions.

Turning point

The Commanders were forced to try a two-point conversion at the end of the game because Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter blocked a PAT attempt earlier. On the two-point conversion, the Commander attempted a shovel pass to tight end John Bates, but Eagles defensive tackle Moro Ojomo tackled him short of the goal-line.
