Who Will Be the Eagles Week 1 Opponent in 2025?

We all know the Philadelphia Eagles will open the NFL season on Thursday, September 4, on NBC, kicking off the 2025 season.

One team is already lobbying to face the Eagles in the opener, the Detroit Lions. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown said he wants to face off against the Eagles in the 2025 season opener: "You would see what could've happened in an NFC Championship with a healthy defense, how that shit operates."

Here is what Sports illustrated Sr. NFL Reporter Albert Breer said in his latest NFL Mailbag at SI.com.

The idea of a Detroit–Philly matchup is super enticing, as the NFC title game we didn’t get to see. There’ll be a lot of intrigue with the Lions, too, given all the turnover on their coaching staff. So let’s go with that one, with the Rams being another potential candidate.

Detroit was the No. 1 seed this season in the NFC playoff field but was knocked off by the Washington Commanders in the NFC Divisional round. Injuries crippled the Lions defense, who also had to replace both coordinators this offseason.

The Lions would be an appealing team to face, as they faced the World Champion Chiefs in the Thursday Night openers two seasons ago, knocking off Kansas City that night. The NFL could pair the two NFC powers up as a measuring stick to see who the favorite is in the NFC in 2025.

Other options include the Chicago Bears, a team with a high-profile QB in Caleb Williams, with a new head coach, Ben Johnson, and is in a big market. It's unlikely you will see the NFL pair them up with Dallas, but they could make an NFC Championship rematch between the Eagles and Commanders.

Other home opponents include: the Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, and LA Rams, with each team offering some intrigue.

An Eagles-Rams NFC Divisional Round rematch, that came down to the final play could be a good kickoff.  The Eagles could also host Pete Carroll, in his return to the NFL with the Raiders. And Denver could pair an up-and-coming AFC playoff team up against the defending champions.
