The Eagles are continuing their process of rebuilding their defensive coaching staff.

First, it has been reported that Vic Fangio will be the team's new coordinator on that side of the ball, now they are interviewing former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

D.J. Eliot served in that role during the 2023 season for the Eagles.

According to Eagles beat writer Brooks Kubena, also from The Athletic, the interview is for the team's vacant linebackers coach position.

Barry was the Packers defensive coordinator since replacing Mike Pettine in 2021.

One area of concern with Barry's defenses in Green Bay was stopping the run, the Packers run defense was among the worst in the league.

The Packers were ranked 28th against the run in 2023, down from 26th in 2022 after finishing 11th in 2021. They allowed four teams to rush for more than 200 yards against them in 2023.

He had two previous stints as a defensive coordinator, with Detroit (2007-08) and Washington (2015-16, with all of his defenses ranking near the bottom of the league in yards allowed during those years.

He has been a linebackers coach in the past, most recently with the Rams from 2017-2020.

Adding a name like Barry would give the Eagles defensive staff much more experience than the 2023 staff.
