Phillies Call Up Andrew Painter to Stop Losing Streak in Baltimore
As the Philadelphia Phillies head to Camden Yards in Baltimore, they appear to be filling their TBD with a familiar name.
Andrew Painter.
Stopping the Bleeding: Can the Phillies Snap the Skid?
Painter was slated to pitch for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but instead will be heading to Charm City to try and help the Phillies snap their 3-game skid, thanks to a sweep at the hands of the Marlins.
Andrew Painter Earns His Way Back to the Big Leagues
After struggling at the MLB level and his first few Triple-A starts, Painter has settled in, giving up just three runs in his last 11 Triple-A innings while striking out 14 posting a 2.45 ERA during that time.
The 23-year-old pitching prospect had a rough go during his first tour of duty, a total of 14 games at the big league level, going 1-8 and posting a 7.06 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts in 65 innings.
He was supposed to give the Phillies back-of-the-rotation depth, but struggled to find any consistency and was sent to Lehigh Valley to try to work on some issues. With the team needing someone to fill the fifth starter role, Painter is back and pitching tonight in Baltimore.
To make room for Painter, the Phillies sent Brian Keller back to Triple-A Lehigh. Keller pitched in one game for the Phillies allowing only one run in 3.0 innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
Scouting the Matchup: Painter vs. Brandon Young
Painter will be opposed by right-hander Brandon Young, who has been solid this season for Baltimore with an 8-2 record and 3.13 ERA. In his last start, Young allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Orioles’ 3-2 victory over the Braves on Saturday.
