Athletics Back Off After Phillies’ Steep Trade Demand for Alec Bohm
Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson told third baseman Alec Bohm the team was not shopping him in trades, but his name keeps coming up as teams call the team about his availability.
One team that needs a third baseman, the A's, were reported to have inquired about Bohm, but the Phillies asked for All-Star closer Mason Miller and the A's moved on.
From Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic:
The Philadelphia Phillies’Alec Bohm is another trade candidate, but when the A’s inquired about him, the Phillies asked for All-Star reliever Mason Miller. That ended the conversation, an A’s source said.
While Thomson told Bohm the team wasn't shopping him, the team is running out of free-agent options to improve the team and will need to be creative to find a trade to upgrade the roster.
It seems that every time Bohm's name has been mentioned, the team has asked for pitching in return, with both Seattle and the Chicago White Sox.
The team missed out on former Astros left fielder Kyle Tucker, who was traded on Friday to the Chicago Cubs.
The teams' lone move this offseason has been adding former Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano with a one-year, $8.5 million contract. Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estevez, both key parts of the 2024 bullpen remain unsigned.
