While Half Marathons and 5K Runs are great events for raising money and camaraderie, they are logistical nightmares. If you are not a participant in the event and have to travel to the area of the race, it's an incredible inconvenience if you do not know about it ahead of time.

Nothing is more exasperating than when you expect to get to your destination by a certain time but encounter unexpected traffic delays. Whether it is one-lane traffic due to construction or a traffic detour for a special event, we always wonder "Why didn't anyone tell me about this ahead of time?"

Well, let's give credit to the South Jersey Shore Town of Ocean City for sending out a Press Release letting people know about the traffic delays and bridge closing this weekend. The annual OCNJ Half Marathon, 10-Miler, and 5K Run raises money to benefit Ocean City Recreation Scholarships and Programs.

What You Need To Know About Traffic Delays For This Year's Event

The 2024 edition of the OCNJ Half Marathon, 10-Miler, and 5K Run will take place on Sunday, September 22nd. The Half Marathon and 10 Miler races will start at 9th Street in Ocean City with the route traveling north across the Ocean City-Longport Bridge with a turnaround point set before Ocean Drive merges with Somers Point-Longport Boulevard.

Since the race route uses the bridge at the north end of the island, the Ocean City-Longport Bridge will be closed to automotive traffic on Sunday from 8 am to approximately 10:30 am to ensure all runners are clear from the bridge before resuming traffic.

Both the OCNJ Half Marathon and 10 Miler races will utilize Asbury Avenue between Battersea Road and 9th Street for their course. The Half Marathon route will include Wesley Avenue and Central Avenue between 23rd and 37th streets.

There will be traffic delays and detours around those areas of Ocean City on Sunday morning. So if you are a resident traveling around the Shore Town or coming onto the island this weekend, prepare to be inconvenienced on Sunday morning.

The next time you visit Cape May County's northernmost Shore Town, there are some great restaurants to visit even though the summer season is over.  Here are some recommended places to eat in Ocean City:
