Black Cactus Avalon Confirms Closure
This was the message we were greeted with when we placed a call on Friday evening at about 5:30 p.m.
Official Statement on Closing
"Thank you for your patronage. We are permanently closed as of Sept 21, 2025. We hope you enjoyed your experience and have a great fall season."
No reason was given, but Avalon is losing its only Mexican-themed cuisine.
Black Cactus was located at the former Coldwell Banker Real Estate location and was situated across the street from the Pirate Island Mini Golf.
Owner and Chef Partnership Created Buzz
There was plenty of buzz when owner Ed Kennedy, a real estate developer who lives in Stone Harbor, opened the location. He partnered with Chef Jason Cichonski, a well-known chef in Philadelphia, to develop the menu.
Black Cactus had a Liquor License that was obtained when Jack's Place closed, leaving the Liquor License dormant and unused.
