Cape May Named Prettiest Small Town in New Jersey by Travel + Leisure
This South Jersey town was recently recognized as one of the prettiest 'small towns' in New Jersey by the popular travel site Travel + Leisure.
It should come as no surprise that Cape May made a list highlighting some of New Jersey's prettiest places with these factors under consideration: walkability, shopping, dining, history, ocean views, architecture, and more.
Travel + Leisure Ranks Cape May No. 1 in New Jersey
According to Travel + Leisure and their report, ‘10 Prettiest Small Towns in New Jersey,’ representing South Jersey, in the No. 1 spot on the list is none other than Cape May.
Widely recognized as America’s oldest seaside resort (and a place I personally spend a lot of time), Cape May is a storied coastal playground at the south of the Cape May Peninsula, known for its impressive concentration of Victorian architecture, timeless charm, and year-round appeal. Of course, it also boasts what most would argue is the Jersey Shore’s best asset: beautiful beaches—long, sandy, empty in the colder months, and full of families building sandcastles and playing catch in the summer.
Other South Jersey Towns Making the List
Cape May wasn't the only Cape May County and South Jersey town that made the list; coming in at No. 9 is Stone Harbor.
Stone Harbor Offers Quiet Coastal Charm
Quiet and charming, with a slower pace and a family-friendly vibe, Stone Harbor, Avalon’s southern neighbor on Seven Mile Island, is a place to get away with the kids. However, that’s not to say couples won’t find plenty of appeal. The dune-backed beaches are rarely packed, making this a quiet and relaxing escape.
One other Southern Jersey town that made the list, at No. 8, was Haddonfield.
Historic Haddonfield Represents Camden County
Not far from Philadelphia in South Jersey, Haddonfield, which dates back to the early 1700s, has Georgian-style architecture, shops, restaurants, and historic sites that are walkable, well-kept, and distinctive.
