After nine seasons, Cedar Creek football coach Tim Watson is stepping down, the schools announced via its social media account.

The only football coach the Pirates have ever had, steps down with a career record of 71-27, with two South Jersey Group II titles.

He turned Cedar Creek into a household name almost immediately, putting some of its top players into Division I schools, including Damon Mitchell, a 2013 graduate who played at Arkansas and Rutgers and Bo Melton, a 2016 graduate, who will be a senior at Rutgers in the fall.

Watson is the father of Mainland star basketball player Kylee Watson, who will continue her basketball career at the University of Oregon.  He has two sons, one of which will be a freshman at Mainland in the fall.

Some of his players, both current and former, and school administrators, already have begun to reach out on social media to talk about the impact Watson made to them.
