Phillies utility player Kody Clemens hardly played in the first four weeks of Phillies action.  Appearing in just seven pinch-hitting appearances, Clemens was hitless.  After Weston Wilson returned from the injured list, there was no room for Clemens.

The Phillies designated Clemens for assignment upon Wilson's return on Wednesday.  That gave the Phillies a 10-day window to assign the contract, which could include attempting to outright Clemens to the minor leagues.  However, Clemens was out of options and could have been claimed by another team or opted for free agency.

The Phillies were able to work out a trade instead.  Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that Clemens was headed to the Minnesota Twins in a midnight post early Saturday morning.

As of Saturday morning, it was unclear what the Phillies would receive in return.

The Phillies acquired Clemens in the 2022-2023 offseason from the Detroit Tigers in a trade that landed the Phillies reliever Gregory Soto.

Clemens batted just over the .220 mark for the Phillies in 100 games.  His best attribute was defensive versatility, as he was able to help the Phillies at first base, second base, shortstop, third base, and both outfield corners.

Ultimately, the ability for Wilson to play the outfield and bat from the right side appeared to be more useful to the Phillies at the moment.
