I almost washed my car, almost weeded the gardens, almost went paddleboarding, and almost did a lot of other things before the game. But I did nothing after breakfast at Ocean View Restaurant in Cape May.
Three stars
- Eagles left tackle Fred Johnson and the offensive line (zero sacks allowed and also excellent run blocking).
- Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (3 rushing touchdowns, 1 passing TD, no turnovers).
- Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki (7 receptions for 73 yards for Southern Regional H.S. grad).
Eagles’ best play
Hurts fired a perfect pass that wide receiver DeVonta Smith hauled in for a 45-yard touchdown that gave the Eagles the lead for good at 24-17 in the third quarter.
Eagles’ worst play
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrows found a wide-open wide receiver Jermaine Burton for a 41-yard gain.
Turning point
With the Eagles leading 24-17, the Bengals decided to go for it on fourth-and-1 from their own 39-yard line late in the third quarter. Eagles rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean tackled wide receiver Jamarr Chase for a 2-yard loss, turning the ball over to the Eagles. Place-kicker Jake Elliott booted a 49-yard field for a 10-point lead.
