Dave Weinberg’s Eagles-Saints 2-Minute Drill
Eagles-Saints 2-minute drill
Eagles' best number: 1 (Touchdowns allowed by Eagles defense against powerful Saints offense)
Eagles' worst number: 2 (Jalen Hurts turnovers)
View from my living room:
I predicted a Saints victory, thus guaranteeing an Eagles win in the minds of some of my friends. They do have a point, since I’m 0-3 in my Birds’ picks so far this year.
Three stars
- Eagles running back Saquon Barkley (147 rushing yards, 2 TDs).
- Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (10 receptions for 170 yards).
- Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter (2 tackles for loss, 2 pass defenses)
Eagles’ best play
Barkley broke through a big hole on the left side, then outran the Saints defense for a 65-yard touchdown. He celebrated by jumping into a group of Eagles fans sitting behind the end zone.
Eagles’ worst play
You can pick either of coach Nick Sirianni’s decisions to go for it on fourth down. Both attempts came up short.
Turning point
Trailing 12-7 with 1:16 left in regulation and facing a third-and-16, Goedert broke free after two Saints defenders collided, grabbed Hurts’ pass and rumbled 60 yards to set up Barkley’s game-clinching TD.
Did you notice?
Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson (concussion) and right guard Mekhi Beckton (hand) were hurt in the first half and did not return. Fred Johnson and Tyler Steen took their places.… Eagles special teams player Nolan Smith saved a TD in the third quarter by tackling Saints defensive back Jordan Howland after he scooped up a blocked punt by J.T. Gray.… The Saints had entered the game as the league’s top scoring team with 91 points in two games.… Hurts threw his fourth interception of the season in the first quarter and also lost a fumble.
