Former Eagles running back coach Duce Staley asked out of his contract, his wish was granted, and he has already landed a new gig.

The Detroit Lions have hired Staley as assistant head coach/running backs, as part of new coach Dan Campbell's new staff.

Staley interviewed for the Eagles heac coaching vacancy, but was passed over in favor of Nick Sirianni. He had been a part of three different coaching staffs in Philadelphia, starting with Andy Reid, Chip Kelly and Doug Pederson.

However, it seems Staley saw the writing on the wall and decided the best move for his future to move up the to the next rung of the coaching ladder would be a fresh start.

It was reported that Staley had the support from current and former players, was reportedly pursued by several teams.  He is considered to be a tremendous leader of men and hopes to be a head coach someday. but it appears that the Eagles didn't see him as the right candidate this time around and passed on him, instead going with Sirianni.
